Seriously, this thing is huge. But the small boy loves it. He helped build it …
and then dismantle the crib without a second look (saying goodbye to the nuks? not so much).
Big sister is also a big fan. She’s been sleeping in that trundle every single night.
Now, for a nice book …
And then snuggle under the quilt. My mother-in-law had these in her attic for the past 30 years–can you believe it? One of Jeff’s aunts made them for him and his brother, but they were rarely used. Having a packrat in the family = priceless!
Yes, we are going to repaint, by the way. I’m thinking a warmish khaki but that was before I got the quilts. Suggestions welcome (I’d also love to do something fun with that dormer/slope thingie–what’s that called? There’s one on the opposite side of the room too).

We are also wanting to hang on to our binky. I tried to take it away last night, but the horror! the crocodile tears. I gave in. Sigh.
The trundle is such a good idea! I wish we had gotten one under our daughter’s big girl bed.
What about pulling out one of the greens from the quilt? Something calming.

I have a friend who has the dormer thingys in her house and she painted them an accent color. So, ie, khaki walls, light green dormer thingys- just a thought.
That is one heck of a big boy bed! My mother-in-law has a trundle bed and the girls absolutely adore it.
I love the khaki idea. My nephew’s room is a dark khaki color. He has the whole sports theme bedding from Pottery Barn Kids going on.

I love Captain’s bed (that’s what we called that style of bed – my bro had one). High five on the big boy bed. (and love the quilt – three cheers for pack rats – I’m from a family of those).
OK, that really IS a big bed! But I’m so impressed that he took to it so well! Yay Opie!

Wow, a big bed! We just moved Q to a twin mattress this week. It’s still sitting on the floor, while he gets used to not having an enclosure (and um, while we shop for a bedframe). I love the one you picked!

Those quilts are gorgeous! When my husband and I got married, my lovely mother-in-law gave us beautiful quilts, that she had bought years earlier for each of her sons. What a momentous occasion the transition from crib to big boy bed, I know I stressed over it with both my kids. Luckily, neither one of them were sad to leave their cribs. So sweet that Big sister sleeps in the trundle.

Maybe one color for the underside of the dormer/slope thing and another for the rest of the room? As for getting rid of the pacifier, we did two things. With one kid we talked about the ancient Egyptians and how they buried their loved ones with items they valued. (Yes, my husband used to be an archaeologist) Our cat had just been killed by a neighbor’s dog and we decided that Simon might need the binkies in the afterlife more than our son needed them right then. So we buried about a dozen pacifiers with our cat. And we only had one night of fussing about it. With the youngest we tied all the binkies to big helium balloons and let them go for all of the baby birds who…you know…”might need them”. It worked.
The trundle IS a great idea. Especially when your big boy gets even bigger and starts having friends spend the night.
That is a super cool big kid bed. Bet he’s very proud.
