Eternal sunshine of the optimistic mind

Someday, this child will wear underwear. I’m trying the Law of Attraction because I am out of other options.

The darkest hour of potty training, when you’ve just about given up all hope, when you begin pulling out your hair…that’s when the magic happens.

You’ve got to tell me where you got those unders! Perfect for my guy’s future potty training efforts.

or, he might not

Of course he will. Or if not, you can always bribe him into making him wear them to school where they teach them all the hard stuff we can’t seem to get right.. right?

Fancy underpants and Skittles. That was our winning combo for our youngest. (Don’t ask about the older ones. They were never trained. Shhhhh! It’s our secret.)

Those drawers are really cute. Boxer briefs for the under-five set…who knew?

I hope, I hope, I hope that this comes true for you. When it does? It’s awesome.

M&Ms, fire truck underwear, stickers, all kinds of incentives and big boy talk – nothing worked. After we gave up, time passed, and then he decided that he was tired of diapers. Woo-hoo!

Well, we still have a diaper for night, but I assume he'll be ready to get rid of that before high school?

My oldest was potty trained at daycare.

My middle ( a boy) was very stubborn and resistant. Very. So much so I though he and his younger sister (by two years) would wear underwear at the same time.

My husband and I went out of town for a short getaway and my mom asked if it would be OK if she tried to potty train him.

OK? Are you kidding me?

We came home four days later to a boy in underwear.

It wasn’t him. It was me.

My youngest decided that she was ‘tired of diapers’ January 2, 2007. Period.

Seven years and a day of changing diapers. Wonder how many that adds up to.

My point? I do have one, really – it will happen. Probably when you least expect it.

It will happen, I know it’s really tough so hang in there and just know that you are not alone and you are doing your best. Sending good thoughts that it happens sooner rather than later, and btw those are really cute underwear.

psssst. Declan still wears pullups at night.

Christina February 1, 2009 at 9:16 pm

The day Cordy gives up her pull-up is the day I run out into the street and cheer. She’s nearly four and a half and if in underwear will still wet herself if you don’t order her to go to the bathroom every half hour. And even if we do that, she still wets through 1-2 times a day.

I hope it comes quickly for you.

Oh man, we are in the thick of toilet training in our household, too. It ain’t pretty.

And I agree… those drawers are adorable!!!
