As of yesterday, all of the people that I couldn’t stand working with at my old job have been laid off. So here I am eking out a freelance career, constantly wondering if I’ll find enough work, tallying up the dumb ways we waste money, thinking about how I should be promoting myself/networking better but am not … and now I can add “endlessly debating whether I should have just stuck it out at the old job.” Of course, a ton of people got laid off there yesterday and it’s quite possible that I would have been one of them had I stayed.
To top it off, my lovely boss from that job was laid off from her subsequent job. If I may restate the totally obvious, this economy can #suckit.

Sounds to me like you jumped right on time.
The more dismal employment headlines I read daily the more thankful I am for my “boring” but stable (with benefits!) day job.
I’ve often fantasized about freelance writing and still may some day, but for now I’m sticking close to the boring gig!

I still think you did the right thing. I miss my old job like crazy too, but I know I made the right move – and I think you did too.
I hear ya! I love being home with my son, but there are definitely days when I miss the “security” of a paycheck.

Money is easy to waste sometimes, isn’t it?! Take that lame dinner we bought the kids last week for their report cards. Should’ve gone to McDonald’s and saved the rest, but no, I was sure they’d like the fancy place. Ah, well, live and learn. It sounded good at the time.

I was reading an article last week about how most people wait too long to make the decision to get out of situations that they don’t enjoy or aren’t good for them . . . sounds like you chose well. It’s just that there are tough times all around.
As for expenses – I almost had a heart attach over our heating bill last month. We turned it down a bit, so I’m hoping this bill is better.

Oh yes, the economy is definitely in the crapper. I can personally attest to it. And I found out on Thursday that things are going to get really interesting around the Eucalyptus household.
