1. I wash a load of towels. I put them in the dryer. Later, I open the dryer to fold them and they REEK. I dry them again with an extra dryer sheet. Now half of them smell normal. I take them out (this requires sniffing each item individually) (!) and dry the remaining, reeky ones one more time. Now they’re fine. The first time this happened I thought it was a fluke. The second and third times, I got mad.
2. I mostly use Firefox for my web-browsing needs, which of course are constant especially during the so-called work day. But for months now, FF freezes and crashes constantly—but only between about 11 a.m. and 3 p. m. I have the most recent version of FF. I have good virus protection. I even changed service providers (from cable to DSL) and this still happens. It must be my computer, but how come it only happens at certain (extremely inconvenient) times?
Do we have a poltergeist or something?
(In possibly related news, I am buying myself one of those teeny weeny laptops. Asus? Eee? Any thoughts/prefs?)

I don’t understand the towel issue at all.
Does your Firefox need an upgrade? It doesn’t explain the time periods of the crashing, but I usually get a bunch of crashes just prior to some patch being released.
I am STUMPED on the towel issue. I just downy- in the washer.
I use Safari. It’s been freakishly slow lately.
perhaps the towels were starting to mildew in the washer before you got them to the dryer – or in the dryer if they were still damp. This happens to me in the summer if I let them sit in the washer too long. The only fix I’ve found is to rewash.
computer issue – sure it isn’t firefox and they are hitting their limit during work hours and can’t take the load?
enjoy the new computer

Everything coming out of my washer and out of my dryer has a stink to it lately – I thought it was just me, until my hubby mentioned something about it the other day. Like a previous commenter – we just re-wash and HOPE that it doesn’t happen or we do our best to ignore it. LOL
I can’t help with the towel issue… could you try air-drying and see if that makes a difference?
Also of no help with Firefox. But J has an Eee PC 900A (purchased refurbished) and he really likes it. It runs Linux but he is able to use it for web surfing, etc.
My sister has a teeny laptop, which she loves (great for traveling). I find it a little hard to focus on the screen for any extended period.
I so want one of those small laptops. But have no advice at all on which one to get. And no advice on the towel issue. I know, I’m a load of help. The firefox thing sounds like maybe you need an upgrade? I use it, too and doesn’t crash for me.
About the towels…….Do you have front loaders? I hear the washers can leak (they hold water in the drum) and actually there is a clas action lawsuit going on somewhere about the very thing. Smelly, mildewy-like clothes is the result. Ahhh, good luck. I hate smells. My pregnancy hormones never turned off and I have the smelling power of a hound dog!!
ewww on the towels. and Lisa above has just freaked me out about our new front loader, which i am now going to go sniff, b/c i noticed when we came back from vacation that it kinda had a smell going on. lovely.
Dave has the little acer. it rocks. so long as you don’t want more than about five windows open at a time. and he’s finding that he can’t actually write a formal paper on it b/c his eye can’t scan enough of the page at a time to really locate himself in his own narrative. poor precious. i also suspect he just doesn’t want to write this paper.
we moved from Firefox to Chrome b/c my FF kept crashing too.
OMG NO! I hated Firefox. Used it for a year and lost most of my hair
. I use Chrome now and love it.
On the laundry: I rewash when I get the stinky smell. However you have my sympathy completely on whatever gremlin is causing such havoc in your dryer. My box of whole foods baking soda (whichis very friendly and full of advice) claims if you have mildew smell, you can just toss some baking soda in the dryer with the towels and run a cycle and it’ll clear right up without leaving residue. Let me know if you try it…
On the browser — isn’t firefox more of a mac thing and aren’t you on a PC? Maybe that chrome thing is the way to go? Keep us posted!
