It’s all in the details

Remember when we talked about old houses? Here are some of the kooky things I like about mine. (Click on any of them to learn more and see the full set @ Flickr.)

I adore that wallpaper in the 2nd pic.

That looks like my kind of house. Wonderful.

Oh, I have so many thoughts running wildly through my head! I love the details!

Grate – beautiful scroll work
Trim carpentry work – WOW! Even on the porch! Such details!
Cut out slats in the laundry room – I had those in both this house and my last two houses
The light fixturs – love them!

Charm. Character. Love it.

I was *JUST* talking about this!! We live in a rowhome in a blue-collar neighborhood. Down the street is a row of older homes. The little details on these houses are gorgeous. There are these little ceramic (I guess) emblems built in the peak part of the brickwork on the roofs. On downtown Mainstreet, there are apartments built over the stores. There are all these intricate little doodads built into the stonework. Stone plaques that read “Faith” “Hope” “Charity” over the store that used to be the old Doll Hospital (No, really. Finnegan’s Doll Hospital. He would take your old, broken Betsy Wetsy and FIX her!!)
I think that’s one of the reasons that my sense of direction is so screwy….I’m always looking around at architecture instead of watching where I’m going!

I love that your house looks old– but not dirty or dingy. Clean and bright. How cool that you have wallpaper – so people seem afraid of it these days.

Lovely! The garage-chimney is interesting – perhaps they built it for practice?

I love the portrait you’ve created with these images.

Oh my gosh I LOVE this kind of stuff. Look at that crown molding in the living room!

As the wife of a man who does historic preservation and conservation for a living, and as an owner of an old house as well….let me say, I approve! Very lovely.

I can tell I love your house (*drools*)

Ohh, oooohhhhhhh. The wallpaper, the light fixtures. Sigh. I love everything.

Re: your laundry room cabinets – our kitchen cabinets, the ones under the sink, look exactly like those but with different hardware. Ours, however, aren’t in as good shape, no doubt due to the previous owners not taking care of the house. Love the pictures of your house :)
