I. Opie said some funny stuff.
- On Columbus Day, his school was closed but Jo’s wasn’t. I offered to take him to breakfast at the establishment of his choice. He picked Starbucks. There he sat down, surveyed the scene, then looked at me and said, “It is so nice to have this time together.” Seriously, is he 4 or 34?
- Our local hospital observed its 100th anniversary with a kids’ event in the park by our house. Along with the clowns and the inflatables they had an actor playing the woman for whom the hospital is named. (Who happened to die in childbirth but we’ll just ignore that for now.) Opie marched up to her and announced, “I was borned in your hospital!”
- Opie finds a small, clear plastic candy wrapper just big enough to fit onto the tip of his finger. Ever so sweetly, he asks “Can you help me … recycle this wrapper … into a puppet?
II. We saw David Sedaris do a reading again the other day. We actually spent more time driving to and fro than actually listening, but it was still worth it. He did a piece about his own, his mother’s, and his sister Amy’s experiences with jury duty. I felt a kinship.
III. I’ve been busy over at the paying job. I updated all of my holiday shopping lists:
- Active Toys for the Whole Family
- Active Toys for School-Age Kids
- Active Toys for Toddlers and Preschoolers
- And I spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about snacks.
IV. Jo made her first diorama for school. It is an artistic, three-dimensional rendering of the poem “Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out.” I had to put the kibosh on her original plan to use actual food waste.
V. The end. Have a good weekend. I’m going to a bridal shower. I was instructed to wear my worst bridesmaid dress. Since I’ve only been a ‘maid once and that was 16 years ago, I had to buy myself a dress at St. Vincent’s (where I also bought a couple of cute bags for Mocha’s Small Purse Drive–go! read! contribute!).

I love those gift ideas – I’m checking out the beanbag toss and the bobles. Thanks!
“It is so nice to have this time together.” SO ADORABLE!!
oh my god..he’s so deep!
Maybe he IS 34!! On the bright side, then he’ll be able to skip the whole diorama thing. Hope you had fun in your bridesmaid dress.
Here’s hoping Jo doesn’t run into what my kids did with dioramas: the professional ones outshining theirs. (“Professional” as in done by mom and dad.)
I’d love to see a picture of hers!
